Watersports

You can access a whole host of watersports in the area. La Guisane and La Durance rivers are perfect for white water rafting and kayaking - whether it’s your first time and you would like a taster session, you are an experienced paddler or you are looking for a family activity.

The impressive Embrun lake is also within driving distance where other watersports such as wake boarding, kite surfing and sailing are available. We can assist in arranging equipment hire and coaching.

Mountaineering, rock climbing and via ferrata

Mountaineering
The peaks surrounding the Serre Chevalier valley are extremely popular with mountaineers. They include: the Barre des Ecrins (4,102m) as well as the Pelvoux, Meije, Les Agneaux, Mont Thabor and Le Grand Galibier. Ailefroide, in the nearby Vallouise valley, is France’s second most popular mountaineering destination and was explored by great names such as Whymper and Coolidge. We can assist in arranging various backpacking trips, climbs and glacier hikes starting in Serre Chevalier.

Rock climbing
Various rock climbing routes are easily accessible from the Serre Chevalier valley. The Hautes Alpes offers an amazing choice of rock climbing with everything from classic alpine ascents of all grades to modern bolted routes with both single and multi pitch crags.

Via ferrata
Via ferrata - is Italian for “iron road”. These are are mountain routes equipped with fixed cables, ladders and bridges which allow for interesting and diverse routes around the mountains. Serre Chevalier has various via ferrata trails ranging from very easy and suitable for children to the more difficult routes. We can help organise taster sessions with a guide or arrange equipment hire for the more experienced.

Paragliding

We highly recommend a paragliding flight in Serre Chevalier as an exhilarating way to see the valley from the air. Experience the adrenaline rush as you take off and then climb to see amazing views of the glaciers in the Parc National des Ecrins - an absolutely unforgettable experience! Other activities

Horse riding
There are a number of stables in the villages of the valley. We can help organise pony treks or group and private lessons.

Swimming
Chose from the pools in Villeneuve (indoors and outdoors), Chantemerle (outdoors) and Briancon (indoors and outdoors), swimming in fresh water mountain lakes or for the full relaxation experience head to the thermal spa at Monêtier.

Tennis
We can assist in arranging tennis court hire and tennis coaching which are available in Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Briancon.
